Biography

Miko’s passion and commitment to empowering women and diverse attorneys has guided her career since she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2001 and entered private practice. As a Japanese Egyptian female, Miko experienced firsthand the challenges that women and attorneys of color face in the legal profession. Those challenges intensified when Miko had her children as an Associate and junior Partner while trying to build a book of business. Miko was the first female associate to have children at her law firm and then make Partner so there was no roadmap guiding her journey.

In 2012, after having her third child, Miko contemplated leaving private practice. The ability to meet billable hour requirements, develop business, be a good mother and spouse, contribute to the community, and stay healthy felt impossible. But thanks to a strong group of mentors and support network, Miko learned how to integrate these facets of her life and career in a gratifying, sustainable manner.
